Who We Are

We advocate for the rights, fair compensation and working conditions of DND employees who support Canada’s National Defence, ensuring strong representation for workers across trades, technical, administrative and specialized roles.

UNDE members work in a wide range of occupations which include labourers, firefighters, ships crews, various skilled trades, administrative services, cleaning services, food services, technologists/technicians, linguists, computer programmers, logistics specialists, engineers, medical administrators, mathematicians, librarians, financial analysts, recreation/sports specialists, retail clerks, and more.

The Union of National Defence Employees (UNDE) is one of the largest components of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC). We work with the members and PSAC to obtain fair treatment and respect in the workplace, employment security, fair pay and benefits, and safe working conditions.

Our Structure

The Union of National Defence Employees (UNDE) is one of 17 Components of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC). This means that we operate independently to meet the unique needs of our members, but benefit from the resources, support, and collective strength of a larger union.

UNDE is structured to support members at the local, regional, and national levels. The union is led by a National President and an Executive Vice-President, supported by 10 Regional Vice-Presidents. More than 80 Locals provide direct representation in workplaces across the country. This work is supported by staff at the National Office in Ottawa, who help deliver services and ensure the union operates smoothly.

Who Decides

Every three years, elected members from each local meet at a national convention to establish the policies that guide the union, allocate their financial resources and elect their national executive officers.
